Crochet Poncho

Craft project #2: Crochet Poncho

                                                            The first poncho i made

Note: For this project i used a size K crochet hook !
Pro crocheter ? skip to the bottom for pattern!

Step 1: Your going to want to figure out how big you want ur poncho. I personaly do not like things to tight around my neck so i made mine fairly big. I measured and counted chains around my neck till i got to to a comfy circle around my neck. (always end in an even number) There is a math problem to help you out with the rest.
Ch divided by 4 = amount of DC between the first corners here is what i did:
Ch 96 which means 24 DC between the first corners once you got the numbers you need for your poncho your goin to Ch that amount and join with a slip stich in a circle.

Step 2: Ch 3, then 3 DC in the next stitch., * DC 24 stiches across (or your figure), then 3 DC in the next stich repete from * twice. Join to top of ch 3 with a slip stich. You should now have a square !
Step 3: your going to do a slip st across the first stich. Ch 3, Now your going to do 5 DC in the next stich. This is the center of the back point. All increases will be made in the center stich of the previous increase).

At this point you dont need to count ech stich across instead DC in ech stich till you get to a corner you made on the previous row. (it is the stich you put 3 DC in) then in the 1st stich of the 3 DC (in previous row) you come across your going to put 3 DC into that stich. here is where a pattern starts you should notice, now DC in ech stitch across till you get to the previous rows 3 DC (corner), in the 1st stich of the 3 dc,again, put 5 DC, single DC in ech following stich tille the corner. 3 DC into the 1st one of last row again, now here is a picture of the pattern you should see forming in your head:
Your going to repete this pattern untill you get to the desired length your want the poncho. ( i ran out of yarn about half way done with mine. that used 2 full worster (4) rolls of yarn so estimated 4 rolls of worsted (4) yarn)

1st For rows:
Then i switched colors:
And Repeted:
Untill i ran out of thos colors:

I got about half way to what i wanted! so estimiate 4 rolls not 2!

Final steps:
Now yout going to add 2 rows of SC around the top of your poncho !
I used a baby soft yarn to avoid ichy scratchy feeling on my neck.
At the bottom of your poncho you can choose to add fringe (this one was for my hubby and he didnt want girly tassles he said!) you can see it in my 1st poncho tho which was for my daughter. to add fringe you just cut 3 peices of yarn to about 6 inches or more (depending on how long you want your tassles) fold them in half then jpin them to the bottom with a slip knot into every other stich !
